Costoluto Fiorentino: ![]() 80 days. Indeterminate. This Italian heirloom variety from the Tuscany region produces loads of bright red tomatoes with terrific flavor. Tomatoes are typically about 8 ounces, but may be larger, with a smooth shape rather than the heavily ribbed shape typical of Costoluto Genovese. Developed in Louisiana for warm, humid climates, this variety yields plenty of smooth, medium-large round tomatoes. Rutgers: | 75 days Determinate. Gardeners throughout the country are rediscovering this old-fashioned classic for its terrific flavor and productivity. This strain has some disease resistance, which ensures large crops of crack-free, bright red 6 to 8 oz. tomatoes with delicious old-time taste. For many years, this was a favorite for canning because of its abundance, juiciness and deep red color through and through. Developed in the 1920's, but just right for today's gardeners too.

This heirloom variety was originally released in 1944 by the University of Nebraska and it is worth planting today because of its incredible flavor and reliably large harvests even in hot weather. Although this appears to be a average size (6 oz), unassuming red tomato, you just have to grow it to believe how good it is.... sweet yet tangy and full of those rich, complex flavors that make a delicious tomato memorable. Extraordinary taste in a round, red tomato.
Ugly: | 75 days. Indeterminate. This is the same as the tomatoes that have been appearing in supermarkets during the past several years for premium prices. Plants are indeterminate but stay a manageable size, and produce a heavy crop of 12-16 oz ribbed beefsteak-shaped fruit with wonderful, old-fashioned tomato flavor. Some of the best attributes after their great flavor are earliness, productivity, outstanding plant vigor and the ability to keep after harvest. Great for the home gardener!

Anna Russian: 70 days. Indeterminate. Heirloom seed handed down to an Oregon woman from several generations of her family, along with the story that it came from a Russian immigrant. Large, juicy pinkish red heart shaped tomatoes consistently weigh 1 lb. or just under. Flavor is superb. Small foliage and wispy vines are typical of oxheart-type tomatoes, but this one is distinctive for its size, earliness and juicy outstanding taste.
