Common problems of hydroponics:

Many experts around the world say that hydroponics is the future of agriculture. In fact, many farmers have started to make the switch. Especially in places like Israel, it is very much evident. But, everything has pros and cons. Similarly, hydroponics also has some cons that we need to consider before we start. So, let’s look at some common problems of hydroponics.

Common problems of hydroponics:

Power Failures:

Hydroponic systems like NFT make use of water pump to circulate the water and we all know that hydroponics is completely dependent on water. If for some reason, we face a power failure, then our plants will not get water and nutrients.

If power failure lasts long, it could be fatal for the plants. This is according to me, the biggest disadvantage of hydroponics,

Leakages:

Any hydroponics system cannot be sealed completely. There will be many leakages. Even if you somehow manage to seal it, the water will start dripping off by climbing the leaves.

Root rot:

In hydroponics, the roots are watered time and time again or are completely immersed in water. This might cause some roots to rot. It is, therefore, essential to let the roots dry for some plants in hydroponics.

Not Monitoring pH:

pH plays a huge role in hydroponics. If pH is not in the correct range, your plants will not even absorb the nutrient. You can add some of the costliest and best nutrient mixes but, what is the use of it if your plants can’t absorb it.

Keep the pH between 6 to 7 for best results. Keep checking the pH every 2-3 days using a pH meter.

Conclusion:

These are some of the most common problems of hydroponics and these are huge problems. It can actually give you nightmares.

Keep monitoring your hydroponic system to keep these problems away. Precaution is always better than cure. Monitor things properly to avoid problems later on.

Apart from this, hydroponics is the new trend in agriculture. It is really amazing and everyone should try it. It has a lot of pros than cons.

I highly encourage you to take up hydroponics and build a hydroponics system at home.

Thank You!
