Create your own vegetable patch

One of the first things to consider would be to start growing your own food. This could be as simple as herbs and salad leaves, or a little more adventurous such as tomatoes and courgettes. It starts off with an area of your garden or even some pots, then think about things such as plant origin feed additives and then you can start to nurture your plants and watch them grow. It can be extremely rewarding to do this and could help encourage you to try growing more different things and varying your diets more. So many people have taken to their garden in recent months, so why not get some use out of it?

Keep animals

Another thing you could do if you have a little space is to think about keeping animals. This could be something like hens who will lay eggs for you, or bigger animals like cows or goats who can supply milk. Of course, this option only works if you have the space to accommodate animals, but it can be an excellent way to expand your sustainable living approach when it comes to your new lifestyle.

Collect rainwater

Another great option to consider would be to collect rainwater. This can be one of the easiest ways to be more sustainable. In your garden, you can have a tub that will start to collect the rainwater as the downpours begin to happen. This water can then be used to feed your plants and water your garden. There is a lot of wasted water when it comes to using a tool such as a hosepipe, so using water that would have ordinarily wasted away can be an excellent way to be more sustainable in your life. Small changes like this can have an impact on your household bills such as the water bill.

Changing your lifestyle habits

Finally, it is worth looking at things such as your lifestyle habits and seeing if there are any changes that you can make. It might be your habits when it comes to energy usage. Switching things off at the plug and avoiding standby and sitting costs. Maybe it is to reduce the amount of plastic you use day to day. Choosing unpackaged fruit and vegetables in the shops or proffering to refill with glass and other storage options for things like flour, liquids, cereals and grains. There are a lot of refillable stores cropping up now, and this could be an excellent way to do your bit for the environment.

Let’s hope these tips help you to be more sustainable at home.
